Two of Canada's strongest improvising voices, guitarist Jeff Younger and vocalist Viviane Houle perform heartachingly beautiful improvised art song, heavy free improvisations and sublime soundscapes. Long time collaborators, this telepathic, fearless duet shares a love of extreme sonic textures, languid melodies, expressionistic maelstroms, gentle spaces and the unknowable cracks in between.

"Houle not only owns the many avant vocal styles . . . she has something unique — sometimes stunningly brilliant — to bring to each of them." The Squid’s Ear
“Jeff Younger is a 6-string master who has learned the most extreme techniques of the guitar and developed some of his own.” Halifax Jazz Festival

“Barbara Adler guides her audience with the easy charm of someone who loves what they do.” CBC

Barbara Adler is an interdisciplinary artist whose work brings together literary performance, composition and live event production to explore the intersections between text, music, sound and theatre.

Vancouver-based guitarist/composer Ron Samworth is known on the Canadian improvised/contemporary music scene as an inventive textural improviser and a strong fluid melodicist informed and inspired by a variety of music traditions including jazz, rock, new music and folk music of many cultures. His latest project is the forthcoming "Dogs Do Dream", a suite of composition and short narratives inspired by the dream lives of dogs. Performed by an ensemble of Samworth's longtime musical collaborators, with narration by Adler, "Dogs" combines lush sensual immediacy with a disarmingly frank view of the canine experience.

Adler and Samworth’s recent work together includes songwriting, music & text improvisation, and collaborations with improvising dancers. They are currently barfing out a series of lovingly crafted but frantically rehearsed songs for a "New Works Residency" at Sawdust Collector. Their final show in the series will be Tuesday, April 11.
